About

André Bazin (1918-1958), a major figure in the development of film studies, wrote with the clarity of an educator and the enthusiasm of a devotee. Through his famously integrative approach--converging subjects as seemingly diverse as science, politics, and philosophy--Bazin offered an intuitive model for why movies mattered that was accessible to all.
In the same spirit, filmjourney.org hopes to address a diverse assortment of films and give special attention to their historical, formal, and human values.
Editor Doug Cummings has a degree in film from the University of Arizona and is a co-founder of Masters of Cinema and Robert-Bresson.com. This site is a personal blog and informational resource offered in partnership with Beyond magazine. Use it, ask questions, send comments, and enjoy your journey through cinema.
